Rising From the Sea is part of my Goddess Series. This artwork was inspired by “Mythos” written by Stephen Fry and The Birth of Venus painting by Sandro Botticelli. She is a Goddess rising from a seashell and celebrating a new day. The blue background is cotton broadcloth dyed to resemble the sky. The rainbow fabric behind her is silk that I painted with thinned dyes and then screened on top with white fabric paint. The lower, multicolored fabric is silk that I screened on with thickened dyes. The Goddess image and the halo were screened on with fabric paint. It was then fused to a felt backing and hand stitched. The seashell is sewn on.

I used double sided tape and stitches to secure the artwork to a white mat board on a foam board and then framed it in a wooden, black frame. The back is taped with framing tape and hanging wire is attached. It is ready to hang
