Rising is part of my Goddess Series. Her image is inspired from a necklace I purchased at a museum store. I dyed cotton and silk fabrics with Procion MX dyes, cut them into shapes, and fused them onto a felt backing. The top blue fabric is cotton broadcloth and some of the fabric squares at the bottom are silk.

I screened her on with fabric paint as well the orb above her. The orb can symbolize a sun, a moon, a ball, etc. Her outstretched arms indicate that she is happy an celebrating. I added handstiching in patterns radiating outwards to show spreading joy. The artwork is fused to a canvas that is wrapped in black linen. I glued felt to the back to make it neat and pretty and hanging wire is attached. It is ready to hang.
